My name is Bryan Russell. I have been married to my amazing wife Karen for 30 years. She has always loved and encouraged me to be the best I can be. I am the father of six great kids and have 6 beautiful Grandchildren. My passion for fish, fishing and my artwork was instilled by my mom Elaine.
She always made time to get me out on the riverbank at the foot of Ontario st. in Buffalo, NY. She taught me how to fish and always encouraged me in my art. She taught me to work hard for what I want. For that I am for ever grateful! Miss you mom.
I started doing “taxidermy” at the age of 10. As anyone who knew me growing up can attest, It was a passion from the start!
My first fish mount was in 1974 and was a Pickerel I caught from the railing in the Niagara River. I skinned the little guy, and filled him with plaster. I then painted him with an artist brush and oil paints. It looked horrible, but it stoked a fire in me that started my journey to where I am today!
I have never competed in the industry competitions because I never felt lead to. My competition is striving to try to recreate Gods masterpieces. And I know I can never come close, but I continue to try and improve every year.
Colossians 3:23 says “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”
